Trinamool congress cautions hills

Siliguri: The closeness between the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and the Congress has been termed as politics of  arrow interest by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) while the party has cautioned hill people against such forces. The party
has also asked hill people to opt for developments. Goutam Deb the North Bengal development on Tuesday accused the  congress of trying to put the state government under pressure by appeasing the GJM. Deb said, “ If Congress leaders think that by roping in few hill leaders, they can put the state government under pressure then they are living in fool’s paradise.”
A day after Bimal Gurung the GJM president left for Delhi to meet the President Pranab Mukherjee, the TMC hit back and accused the Congress of indulging in narrow politics. Deb’s these statements carry political significance particularly at a time when the relation between the state government and the GJM is at all time low and the GJM is siding with the Congress. On Monday, before leaving for Delhi, Bimal Gurung clearly indicated that the relation with the state government cannot be mended when he said, “We will demand Gorkhaland from those who can give and not from those sitting on the roads.” Gurung also said that he would brief Mukherjee about how the state government has violated the
Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) agreement. The Congress eyeing on the 2014 general election and ensuing panchayat polls in the Dooars is in hurry to befriend the GJM that plays crucial role during elections.Minister Goutam Deb.
